Health professional advises against bananas for breakfast
Yellow bananas are among the most popular types of fruit in Germany. The tasty fruits are rich in minerals and vitamins. They are often used for a quick energy boost in between. But they shouldn't be eaten for breakfast, a health expert advises.

Bananas are among the most popular types of fruit in Germany. The fruits are not only extremely tasty, but also very healthy. Above all, they are rich in potassium and magnesium as well as vitamin B6. It also contains other minerals, vitamins and trace elements. Nevertheless, a health expert advises against eating bananas for breakfast. Because the benefits of the fruit could then quickly be lost.
Easily digestible fruit
Bananas are generally easy to digest, especially for ripe fruit. The fruit is therefore not only recommended as a baby food, but also for intestinal complaints.
Curiously, bananas are used both for diarrhea and as a home remedy for constipation.
In the latter case, however, more ripe fruit must be used because unripe bananas contain a lot of starch that is difficult to digest.
A lot of sugar and acid
However, you shouldn't eat the yellow fruits for breakfast, says the doctor and nutrition expert Dr. Daryl Gioffre on the blog “Byrdie”.
"If you don't balance a banana breakfast with a healthy fat, many of the benefits of bananas are lost," said the health coach.
This is because the fruit contains a lot of acid, which can be neutralized by healthy fats. If this does not happen, the body cannot absorb many important ingredients as well.
According to other experts, bananas cannot develop their full potential on an empty stomach. The body can only absorb the healthy nutrients like vitamin B6 or potassium together with other food.
Bananas with yogurt and nuts
The fruits are not enough to fill you up until lunch, says Dr. Gioffre. Fatigue and cravings soon set in.
"They give you a quick boost, but you will soon be tired and hungry," said the expert.
Because bananas, which the doctor calls “sweets of nature”, contain a relatively high amount of sugar (around 25 percent) and this causes the blood sugar level to rise in a flash, but also to drop again just as quickly.
In addition, the abundant sugar in the body fermented, became alcohol and impaired the digestive system.
However, none of this means that bananas are off limits in the morning. However, they should be consumed in combination with other foods. For example, together with muesli, yoghurt and nuts. (ad)
