From 500 to 170 kilos: Formerly the fattest woman in the world has lost tremendous weight
The 37-year-old Eman Ahmed from Egypt was long considered the heaviest woman in the world. With the help of a special diet and a successful operation, she managed to lose a lot of weight. She reduced her body weight from around 500 to 170 kg. Now she will undergo longer physiotherapy.

Formerly the heaviest woman in the world
The 37-year-old Egyptian Eman Ahmed Abd al-Ati lost around 330 kg with the help of medical professionals in India. At 500 kg, she had previously been considered the “heaviest woman in the world”. The attending doctors were surprised at how quickly weight loss progressed. However, their treatment is far from over. She continues to suffer from numerous health problems. A few days ago, she was transferred from India to Abu Dhabi for further treatment.

Weight reduction thanks to liquid diet and gastric bypass
Eman Ahmed had not left her apartment in Alexandria (Egypt) for over two decades until she was brought to India for the life-saving surgery in February.

At first, no airline had been found for a long time. Finally, she was brought to Mumbai with a specially converted machine. At that time, she weighed around 500 kilos.

According to a report by the "BBC", Eman Ahmed had weighed five kilograms at birth, when she was 11 years old she could only crawl due to her weight.

Numerous health problems
At that time she was diagnosed with “elephantiasis”. In this disease, lymphatic congestion causes the parts of the body to swell. In addition, she suffered a stroke and became bedridden. Her right arm and right leg were paralyzed, she could not speak.

The Egyptian developed various ailments associated with obesity (obesity) such as diabetes, high blood pressure, gout and breathing interruptions during sleep.

In the Indian metropolis, the Egyptian initially managed to lose 100 kilograms through a liquid food diet until a gastric bypass could be placed in early March.

330 kilos in three months
According to a report by the Times of India, the Egyptian managed to lose around 330 kilos in the less than three months since her arrival in Mumbai.

On Thursday, the now 170 kg woman was transferred to Bhurjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi, where she is now to undergo physiotherapy for a year.

"Eman will surely miss me as I will miss her," said her doctor at the Saifee hospital in Mumbai, Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala.

"My only fear was whether she would return. There are two references in the medical literature to the size of patients who have had surgery, one of whom died immediately after the surgery, ”said Dr. Lakdawala. Eman's treatment can be seen as a “medical miracle”.

Not happy with the treatment
According to media reports, however, Abd al-Ati's family had recently been dissatisfied with the treatment in Mumbai. As her sister Shaimaa Selim said, the family asked for "help" because of "lack of progress" in the Emirates.

The Health Minister of the Indian State of Maharashtra, Dr. Deepak Sawant had spoken out in the context of the controversy surrounding the Egyptian family's criticism of establishing guidelines for foreign patients coming to India for medical treatment.

"Private hospitals bring patients to India for treatment, but when it gets bitter between them, it is the doctors who are in trouble," the minister said, according to a Hindustan Times report. (ad)
