Warmth and high humidity lead to hyperthermia
"Give me a way to raise a fever and I cure every illness", the Greek philosopher Parmenides made this statement over 2,500 years ago. Even today, fever is considered the body's natural defense response, which helps to overcome illnesses. There are various ways in medicine to target such a therapeutic fever. Local hyperthermia, which is restricted to a specific organ or part of the body, is used primarily in modern cancer treatment. Treating the whole body with moderate hyperthermia, on the other hand, has a positive effect on many chronic diseases.
Basically, most people feel most comfortable with a relative humidity between 30 and 70 percent. "From a medical point of view, a temporarily higher air humidity makes sense, especially in combination with high temperatures," explains Univ.-Doz. Dr. Bertram HölzI, scientific director of the Gastein healing gallery. Because under these conditions the hyperthermia effect sets in. In response, the body tries to produce evaporative cold by sweating with the subsequent evaporation of sweat and thus to cool the skin. However, if the ambient air is saturated with moisture, the core body temperature rises to values of up to 38.5 degrees.
Experts speak of moderate hyperthermia or therapeutic fever. The defense cells work more effectively under these conditions. There is an acceleration of metabolic and detoxification processes, increased blood circulation and relaxation of painful muscles. Patients can overcome infections, inflammation or pain, such as those associated with rheumatism and skin diseases, faster and better. Patients with chronic pain in particular, where conventional pain treatment methods do not work, often benefit particularly well from alternative pain treatment.
A combination of radon, heat and high humidity is even more effective. “Radon has been used in low doses as a remedy for more than 100 years. It sets in motion many biological processes with various positive effects, ”says Dr. Hölzl. “The natural noble gas stimulates the body's own repair mechanisms, reduces the activity of inflammatory cells and inhibits the release of pain messengers. This benefits patients with degenerative joint diseases as well as those with inflammatory processes. However, radon only develops its optimal health benefits in combination with temperatures above 37.5 degrees and high humidity up to 100 percent. Overheating of the body has an independent therapeutic effect and also improves radon absorption and distribution in the body.
So-called radon heat therapy is recommended as part of a multi-week course. Patients then drive several times into a thermal tunnel 2,000 meters deep into the mountain and use the naturally occurring climate there for about an hour. Cures with radon treatment series are recognized by health insurance companies; the extent of the cost assumption requires approval by the health insurance company.
