Zoophilia - sex with animals: causes and therapy

Zoophilia literally means love of animals, but denotes sexual acts with animals. Formerly, the term sodomy was used for this, derived from the excesses of the citizens of Biblical Sodom, which God punishes for this with total genocide.

Sodomy?

Sodomy was also a synonym for all types of sexuality that did not meet the norm: promiscutivity, incest or homosexuality. Even in medical psychology, sodomy was of equal importance with deviant - negative connotations like hardly any other term.

In the first book of Moses, God punishes the sodomites for "immorality". In Christianity, sodomy was synonymous with "unnatural fornication".

Homosexuals in particular suffered from this stigma, and the epitome of sodomy was anal sex between men - but also lesbian sexuality. In civil society, sodomy was also a synonym for pedophilia. Today, the “sodomists” in western societies have emancipated themselves from the stigma - except for the pedophiles and the zoophiles.

The term sodomy is hardly used anymore, at least among experts. The technical term is zoophilia.

Zoophiles today

Today, zoophiles not only come out in Germany, they portray themselves as people who live their sexuality “differently” and who have the right to do so. In this respect, they identify themselves with homosexuals or fetishists.

They emphasize that they are not animal abusers and do not abuse animals, but that they are relationships that are based on mutuality.

Zoophiles invoke the suppression of all forms of sexuality outside of marriage in Christianity, which today still included forms of sexuality that were considered a private matter. Instead of persecuting zoophilia with the death penalty, viewing it as a perversion or investigating it as a psychiatric phenomenon, they call for their inclination to be expressed as a personal matter.

Sexual abuse

Animal rights activists and veterinarians see it differently. Far from a moral stigma, they always regard the sexual intercourse of people with animals as abuse.

For the following reasons:

1) An animal cannot give any consent at all because of its thinking. This is the same argument why sexual acts with children are also prohibited.

2) A pet is always in a forced situation. It depends on the person with whom it lives. Dogs in particular endure pain that their owners inflict on them. So it is always about sexual acts with addicts.

3) Sexual acts with humans characterize an animal. It gets to know people as sexual partners and not its peers. Such misprints can lead to an animal not being able to integrate into social relationships with its peers for a lifetime.

Social scientist Michael Fischer explains why zoophilia is difficult to imagine without abuse: “Sexuality does not have to be abuse, but when it comes to sexuality with animals, the door is open to abuse. It is highly unlikely that power, especially in a state of sexual desire, will never be converted into coercion. Even if some 'friendly zoophiles' have committed themselves to the equality of the animal 'partner' and some of their writings can be read as if they were thinking of little else during the sexual act - in practice, an (at least mild) coercion is necessary of the animal as a common case. "

The dog expert Prof. Dr. Feddersen-Petersen from Kiel says: “When people perform sexual acts on dogs, the animals simply have no choice due to their living conditions. (…) What is misinterpreted as well-being and pleasure expression is not infrequently the behavior of an animal that is exposed to an extreme stressful situation, ie is completely helpless towards it. ”

Sex with animals in Germany has been an administrative offense since 2013. According to Section 3, No. 13 of the German Animal Welfare Act: It is forbidden to use an animal for its own sexual acts or to train or make available for the sexual acts of third parties and thereby to force it to behave contrary to the species. An infringement with a fine of up to 25,000 euros is sanctioned via Section 18 No. 4 of the Animal Welfare Act.

Consensual sex?

The veterinarian Feddersen-Petersen considers the claim of zoophiles that the animal would also want sex to be nice talk: "How do these people know that what they do is done by the animal's consent? How can you find out? How to measure, how to measure That's subjective talk. "

According to her, dogs in particular are not just sexual, but also abuse of trust: “Dogs endure a lot, including pain. It is only important to them that their owner is there. They are dependent on the person, their attachment partner. You are at the mercy of him and trust him. "

Affected dogs would be traumatized by the abuse, said the professor. They were sensitive if they were touched on the back of the body, they were apathetic, would creep up in dark corners and shiver.

What does psychology say?

In the early 20th century, zoophiles were considered classic perverts in psychology. A. Kronfeld wrote: “Preferential treatment of animals for sexual acts or manipulation. In the feeble-minded, epileptic, dementia, significantly degenerate. Often based on increased sexual excitability. Offenses mostly with "village idiots" and vagrants, sometimes in a frenzy. My observation cases all belong here. "

However, he differentiated between lived sexual acts and erotic fantasies: "In addition to this" primitive "zoophilia, I have found zoophilic tendencies, which only work in the imagination, a few times with shy psychopaths of a lesser degree, who are otherwise depravated in their sex-erotic imagination, where a lively puberty fantasy linked to exogenous impressions of this kind. "

For Kronfeld, however, they were all perverse: “Sometimes sadistic tendencies err on animals; more often I found cases of larval masochism that sexually aroused at the sight of the chastisement of horses by coachmen or dogs by empathizing with the animal, identifying with it according to the idea. In primitive peoples, zoophile acts should not be very rare. The genesis of this perversion corresponds to the typical scheme. "

Psychology regards zoophilia as a sexual disorder, which usually begins with a mismatch in early puberty. The WHO refers to such deviations as disorders of sexual preference.

For forensic doctors and lawyers, zoo sadism plays a role, a form of zoophilia in which those affected feel pleasure in torturing animals. From 1967, zoophilia is no longer punishable in Germany, but cruelty to animals is very good according to the Animal Welfare Act.

Psychology defines zoophilia as a form of sexual behavior in which sexual satisfaction and arousal is mainly achieved through sexual acts with animals.

Psychiatrist Sebastian Dittert treated people with zo-sexual tendencies. According to Dittert, very few sufferers see their sexual orientation as in need of treatment. A Dittert patient was sexually aroused at the age of 14 when he saw dogs mating. Later he aroused the neighbour's male sheepdog by pressing his penis with his hand. He never had sexual contacts with people.

Dittert said: “You don't see zoophilia in people. What is striking is the inconspicuous. "

Who will be zoophile?

Today's psychologists no longer see zoophilia as a hallmark of outcasts. The classic "sodomite" was considered mentally backward, anti-social, disadvantaged because of its appearance, position and social situation. He had no chance of finding a human partner. Or he was an alcoholic or suffered from a mental disorder, psychoses, or a dissocial character.

Today's research clearly shows that zoophiles are not restricted to social classes, men and women commit zoophile acts equally, zoophiles are often professionally integrated.

Many zoophiles are heterosexual and live in steady relationships.

The main objects of zoophiles are dogs and horses.

The experts assume that zoophiles do not necessarily have to have mental disorders.

Replacement action?

Various cases of sexual acts on animals occurred in livestock companies. Since the shepherds were alone with their animals for weeks and hardly ever met a human woman, this looks very much like an alternative action. It's about genital satisfaction, not about humans or animals.

Zoo sadists are also likely to commit a substitute act. Their motive is revenge and they satisfy themselves when someone else suffers. This is not explicitly about animals - cruelty to animals with sexual acts is often a preliminary stage to sexual crimes against people.

Legal zoophilia?

Sex with animals has not been punishable in Germany since 1969, and zoophiles express themselves in public forums and portray themselves with “their animals” on the Internet.

Zoophiles invoke the suppression of all forms of sexuality outside of marriage in Christianity, which today still included forms of sexuality that were considered a private matter. Instead of the death penalty, contemptuous perversion and psychiatric phenomenon, they call for their inclination to be viewed as a personal matter.

The association "ZETA Zoophile's commitment to tolerance and education" distinguishes itself from zoosadists and claims to have "sexual relationships with animals based on mutual love".

Which animals are affected?

Zoophiles who come out claim that they will fall in love with an animal individual. Which animals are used as sexual objects depends on their availability, shape and size.

For this reason alone, the majority of zoophiles are satisfied with dogs: dogs can be easily sexually conditioned, they are predictable, and already “part of the family”.

It is difficult to say where the "pampering" of lap dogs turns into sexual acts. The first question is: does the owner feel sexually aroused, or does he only feel comfortable when he feels the dog's warmth and affection?

A dog's sexual behavior towards a person, for example, when a male covers his owner's leg, or a slippery one slips over their people's blankets, only becomes zoophilic if the person reacts to it sexually.

Sebastian Dittert says: “Dogs have a very close bond with humans. In addition, a dog is easily available as an object for humans. It's different with a horse or a cow, for example. Cats are also more idiosyncratic. "

Horses are particularly affected among hoofed animals. Almost every tenth crime of cruelty to animals goes hand in hand with sexual acts.

Donkeys, cows, goats, sheep and pigs are also used for satisfaction.

Fish, snakes and mice are inserted into the vagina to stimulate them with their movements.

Sexual abuse of orangutans

Sexual abuse of orangutans is common in Indonesia and Borneo. The story of the suffering of the female apes “pony” went around the world.

Pony lived chained to a wall. Her tormentors had shaved her whole body, so that she was helplessly exposed to the mosquitoes and her skin became infected. When a human man approached her, she turned her back to him - the old woman she sold as a monkey prostitute had sexually conditioned her.

35 police officers with AK-47 attacked had to storm the brothel because the villagers did not want to give up their money. T

Animal sex tourism to Denmark

Sexual acts on animals are prohibited in most European countries. In Denmark, however, they were allowed unless the animal was tortured. That is why Denmark was the main destination for animal sex tourists in Europe.

So-called animal brothels made a large turnover, sexual intercourse with an animal cost around 100 euros. Such animal sex houses have been banned in Denmark since 2015 - in Germany since 2012.

The text "or to train or make available for sexual acts by third parties" in the German paragraph, which lists zoo sexuality as an offense, is explicitly directed against animal prostitution. The Stade administrative court sentenced a dog owner in 2012 and prohibited him from keeping animals. The man had offered other people sexual acts on his dogs. The accused admitted that he celebrated sexual parties with dogs.

The history of zoophilia

Zoophilia has been handed down for thousands of years. Rock engravings from the Neolithic Age show men in sexual intercourse with animals. One of the oldest works of art, a hybrid of a lioness and a human being carved out of soapstone, is 32,000 years old.

Sexual contact with animals that represented fertility was considered salvation in archaic cultures. The priestesses of the Greek Aesculapian cult supposedly introduced snakes into the vagina, and the Osiris priestesses in Egypt are said to have had intercourse with a billy goat.

The Hittites, however, saw zoophilia as a crime. Anyone who was sexually involved with a horse or mule was therefore not allowed to become a priest. Anyone who had sexual intercourse with a dog or pig was even subject to the death penalty.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam regard sexual acts with animals as a mortal sin. They probably differentiated themselves from polytheistic religions in which - at least literarily - the union of humans and animals was a sacred ritual.

In ancient Japan and Indonesia, fishermen are said to have satisfied themselves with rays, and in northern Europe and in the South Pacific, men are said to have used dogs as sex objects. Papuan traditions in New Guinea report sexual acts involving turtles and pigs. In Japan, sexual intercourse with animals was not considered a crime, but it was considered stupidity.

Animal transformation

The man in animal form and the animal woman are considered in psychoanalysis to indicate sexual inhibitions. In contrast to the cultural laws for sexuality, nudity and shame, animals manifestly live out their sexuality. The "bitch in heat", the "roaring deer" or the "horny stallion" have therefore always offered a cipher for the sexual instinct of humans. The meaning that such erotic animal people played, however, changed according to the sexual taboos of the respective societies. We constantly mutate our loved ones to such animal walkers, whether we call them "mice" or, when it comes down to business, as a "horny pig".

Internet surveys of zoophiles show that many of them are keen to transform themselves into an animal - physically and emotionally. Some even experience clinical depression from this unfulfilled longing. The sexual tendency goes hand in hand with narcissistic identifications.

In contrast to transsexuals, such a transformation by means of surgery is not possible, why those affected “at least” seek physical association with animals.

This may sound strange to outsiders, but it is a serious problem for those affected. Psychologists who deal with zoophiles consider the risk of suicide to be high because of the impossible fusion.

Human-animal relationships stabilize those affected. Experts emphasize that many zoophiles are not just about sexual satisfaction - but about the desire for a relationship.

Sex with animals in the myth

The religious traditions are usually not real sexual acts of people with animals, but symbolic representations and insinuations of the respective clergy, who fantasized about such sexual intercourse as a bond with demons.

The European wildcat, for example, was considered a symbol of physical love for the Germanic tribes: Freya, the goddess of sexuality, traveled in a wagon that was drawn by wildcats. Freyatag, Friday, was the wedding day, the rugged cats, unmistakable in their lusty munts, fit in with it - and it was precisely this connection to fertility that caused the cats to fail at Christian times. The sexuality of women became the epitome of the work of Satan for the Christian clergy, the cat became his animal. The goddess Freya became the witch, who did her evil deeds in cat form.

Centaurs

The Centauros was a hybrid between horse and man of the ancient Greeks. As we still say "horny stallion", these beings were extremely lustful. The upper body of a man joined on the body of a horse.

The goddess Hera had taken the form of a cloud when it was sexually harassed by the king of the Lapiths, Ixion. The horse men sprang from this cloud. Like Ixion, they couldn't control their drives. The Lapiths drove the mature stallions out of Thessaly. The reason? The Centaurs had gotten drunk with wine and then attacked the women of the Lapiths.

However, a centaur did not come from this cloud, but was a son of the titan Kronos - and thus a brother of the supreme god Zeus, born of a sea nymph. The Titan sprout Cheiron was not a libertine, but a teacher of the heroes. He taught Achilles, the winner of Troy as well as the god of healing, Asklepios. Cheiron healed not only humans, but also animals. The Greeks worshiped him as the forefather of surgery. Cheiron was immortal, yet, noble as he was, he exchanged his life for that of Prometheus. His brother Zeus set him in the sky as the constellation "Kentaurus" (the Sagittarius).

Centaurs symbolized a barbaric existence for the "civilized" Greeks. They were either taken in like Cheiron or were doomed to extinction.

Historians suspect that the steppe nomads are reflected in the Centaurs. When the Greeks met the Scythians, they considered these riders and their horses to be one being. In the meantime, we do not know whether this encounter influenced the myth. Accordingly, the Centaurs must have been included in the stories of the Balkans very early on.

The Minotaur

The bull was at the center of the cult in Minoan Crete; and his horns symbolized the crescent moon. The saga reports that the Cretan priestesses even indulged in bull intercourse; and the later Greeks settled the Minoan bull people in Knossos.

Minos in Crete was therefore a son of the god Zeus and asked his uncle, the sea god Poseidon, to put him on the throne. For this he wanted to sacrifice the first being to Poseidon to come out of the sea. Poseidon sent a magnificent bull, but Minos liked it so much that he let him live and instead sacrificed another cow to his herd.

However, Poseidon did not allow himself to be dragged across the table and took his revenge: he ignited the sexual desire for the bull in Pasiphae, the wife of Minos. She hid in a wooden cow to deceive the bull, and the bull fertilized her. Her son was born; she gave him the name Asterios. But he saw his father as much as his mother: the head of a bull stands out on a human body. The sprout also asked for human flesh.

Minos wanted to kill the monster, but his daughter Ariadne convinced him to keep her half-brother alive. Instead of killing him, the architect Daidalos built a labyrinth in which the Minotaur was locked up. Minos subjugated Athens and took human sacrifices as tribute from the city: every nine years they had to feed seven boys and virgins to the Minotaur.

The monster called a hero on the scene: Theseus disguised himself as a victim, so as to slay the human bull. Luckily, Ariadne fell in love with him and gave him a thread to roll out to find his way out of the labyrinth. Theseus killed the man-eater, freed the victims, grabbed his beloved Ariadne and sailed from Crete to freedom at night.

The myth of the Minotaur probably interprets the palaces of Crete from the perspective of the Greeks. The Cretans ruled the eastern Mediterranean in the second millennium BC. The Minoan Empire went under in a few decades - and we still don't know why. The Greeks came across the nested Palace of Knossos; and they saw numerous depictions of bulls, including the "bull jump", in which young women performed acrobatic exercises on the body of cattle. The Minotaur would therefore be a Greek interpretation of the Minoan cult, which they also denounced as the veneration of a man-eating monster.

However, some historians suspect that the Minoan priestesses actually performed ritual sexual acts with bulls.

Real zoophilia in history

Nevertheless, zoophilia has been handed down from historical times: Sex partners were in short supply for unmarried farmers, but four-legged alternatives offered themselves. In the Thirty Years' War, for example, a mercenary praised the physical pleasure of his sheep. In the Embarrassing Neck Court Regulations of 1530, Emperor Charles V ordered that sodomists be burned at the stake together with their four-legged sexual partners. Sau or goat documented the "unchristian deed" and were therefore eliminated.

In the witch trial, however, a fantasized sexual intercourse with the devil or devilish animals became the core of the assumed godlessness. The devil to whom the witches allegedly kissed the anus usually had animal attributes, and he often appeared in the form of an animal. Victims of these judicial murders burned as werewolves copulated in this fantasy with bitches and wolves.

Animals - From gods to devils

The gods became devils: ancient cultures worshiped gods in the form of animals; the Greek Zeus as well as the Germanic Loki took animal form and mated in it.

At least in the imagination, however, humans reproduced with animals and thus passed on the divine spark - in the cult of Dionysus as well as in the mythology of the Teutons.

Excess wine has dangerous consequences - and where life proliferates, death is born. For the Greeks, Dionysus was the god of intoxication and fertility. He also embodied the cultivated nature, the cultivation of wine, as well as the uncontrolled nature, the unleashed lust, which also killing is not taboo.

The satyrs drink and dance with this sex god. These hybrid creatures grow goat ears, goat horns and a huge penis: the horny goats recreate the nymphs and theirs

Faces exaggerate human features; possibly monkeys were a role model. Anyone who takes part in their dance will go crazy. The game of satyr grumbled about society and shaped today's satire.

Felbucks and heartbreakers

The Christians transformed the lustful goats into devils, even certain sex became a satanic plague and the bodily person appeared in the form of a billy goat. Sexual intercourse with this devil goat gave the witches their magical power: in the fantasy of the witch's Sabbath, the goats of antiquity leaped around.

Conrad Gessner, an animal researcher of the 16th century, suspected real creatures in satyrs; he classified them among the great apes, called them "little goats", and modern zoologists assumed our closest relatives as models for the goat demons: the first Latin name for the orangutan was consequently Simia Satyrus.

Medicine used the term satyriasis to this day, and modern psychiatry understood it to mean a pathologically disturbed sex drive: Casanova and Don Juan with goat piss as a perfume are a little unarmarmant - Casanova syndrome and Don Juanismus clinically meant the same thing as stubbornness .

Romanticists in the 19th century and hippies of our time rediscovered the satyrs, moved to the beaches of the Greek myths, and soon naked wild animals lay around in Crete, who went through their satellites with their whiskers and natural deodorant.

The animal groom

A common motif in fairy tales is the animal groom. The bride first sees her future husband in the form of an animal. We know the frog prince who is only kissed by a princess to the prince. Greek folklore alone reports of animal spouses in the form of swallows, eagles, pigeons, snakes, crabs and frogs, but also in the bodies of lambs and dogs. Some are known in psychoanalysis as symbols of male sexuality: the erect snake not only interprets Freud as a penis.

But the animal shape also indicates the fetus. The newborn is barely distinguishable from other animals, and the personality matures only slowly. The animal stands for the unshaped and such fairy tales about the animal groom tell of the future husband, who is not mature enough for the wedding. Often the chosen one is kept in the animal form by his imperious mother so that she does not have to hand him over to his wife. In these fairy tales, the groom becomes a human being by taking the initiative and detaching himself from his monster mother.

From a psychoanalytic point of view, the groom's animalism always stands for sexuality - and this explains why these stories are so widespread in societies with rigid marriage rules, such as the Orthodox Church or Islam.

The object of (female) desire often changes several times after it appears to the maturing girl in a dream. The boy first turns into a bull. Then he flies away as a bird and returns. This multiple animal transformation is the secret of lovers: love takes time.

Or the animal stands for the awakening rut, as in a story from Ikaria: “Ferernis turned into an eagle, picked up the princess under his wings and went into the room. After a short while the daughter was pregnant.

Most of the time, the future bride herself does not know the double life of her future. But no matter whether he appears as a gentle lamb, tears her clothes as cancer, bites her as a dog, frightens as a snake or also lies around as a phallic Zuccini - on the wedding night he turns into a beautiful young man. The girl who loves the animal does love imperfectly (that is, animal-like), but precisely because of it physically.

Love cats

The domestic cat was domesticated from the fallow cat in North Africa and was sacred to the Egyptians. They represented their moon goddess Bastet as a woman with a cat's head. Bastet was the goddess of fertility and birth, of beauty, femininity and smoothness.

The Teutons were not famous for their openness to new things, and it took time to appreciate the domestic cat. However, the European wildcat was considered a symbol of physical love. Freya, the goddess of fertility, traveled in a chariot drawn by wild cats and the common people worshiped her far more than Odin, the god of kings.

Friday, Friday, was the wedding day in pagan times; the rolling cats, unmistakable in their nocturnal pleasure munts, matched this and this connection to fertility brought the cats to the stake in Christian times. The sexuality of women became the epitome of the work of Satan for the Christian clergy, the cat became the animal of the devil.

But sexual love could not be completely demonized, and so the love cat also kept its good sides: In France, for example, the tail hair of a cat in love potion was used to break the heart of the revered.

In their fables, the Greeks and Romans combined the cunning of the cat when hunting with the seduction of the man by the woman: The poet Aesop told of a cat that the goddess of love Venus turned into a woman and thus seduced a young man. Venus checked to see if she was transforming into an honest wife or keeping her cat character and sent a mouse into the bedroom. The cat woman immediately killed the mouse.

The Greek philosopher Artemidor interpreted dreams of cats as a sign of rivals: just like the cat is chasing the birds, someone is chasing the bride. In the Middle Ages, the hangman threw cats into the sack of adulterers and both drowned.

Cats became synonymous with lustful women, and pussy referred to both the kitten and the vagina, as well as the German pussy. In the 16th century, the scholar Valeriano Bolzani explained the similarity between women and cats: like women, the cat is dominated by the lust for wool. "Because it is the cat that drives the cat to jump out of its corners." Casanova saw it similarly, but positively: "In the cat I see the woman with her eternally mobile, sensitive soul".

The cat's “lust” is due to the different mating processes between cat and cat: the cat presses the cat first; this fends him off. After chasing through the area for some time, however, sexual activity changes; the cat's hormone level rises and she is now chasing the cat. All this is connected with loud shouting.

Fox women

The Japanese know the Kitsune and the Koreans know the Kumiho.

(Dr. Utz Anhalt)
