Good for the immune system and effective against diarrhea
Heidelberg pediatrician Professor Ernst Moro discovered more than 100 years ago that carrot soup was effective in combating diarrheal diseases. His carrot soup helped so well that the death rate at the time in children's diarrhea dropped dramatically. Modern medicines such as antibiotics and antidiarrheals have forgotten the healing properties of carrots. Wrongly?
Carrots are ideal for our immune system. They are rich in vitamins C, B1, B2 and vitamin E as well as in the minerals potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron. Carrots also contain a lot of beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. In addition, carrots are very low in acid and are recommended as a natural dental care alongside daily brushing. Fresh carrots can be eaten unpeeled, then many important ingredients are preserved.
The healing power of carrot soup
No one knew at the time why the carrot soup was so effective and saved numerous lives. It was only almost 100 years later that Professor Dr. Josef Peter Guggenbichler and the Viennese pharmacologist Professor Johann Jurenitsch the mechanisms that ensure the healing effect in the soup. The ingredients in the soup prevent the pathogens from settling in the intestine and are therefore simply excreted.
How diarrheal diseases develop
A disease with diarrhea occurs when bacteria or viruses such as coli bacteria, salmonella or rotaviruses settle in the intestine and spread there. For example, E-Coli bacteria first have to attach to the intestinal wall in order to develop their pathogenic effect. If they do not succeed, the pathogenic germs are simply excreted.
Carrot instead of antibiotics
This effect is used by the carrot soup after Moro. Long cooking creates so-called acidic oligogalacturonides. This substance is similar to the receptors that are located on the inside of the intestine (intestinal epithelium) to which the pathogens normally attach themselves. Due to the similarity to the receptors of the intestinal epithelium, the germs bind to the substances from the carrot soup and are excreted without being able to develop their pathogenic effect.
No risks and side effects
The effects of the soup are free from risks and side effects. In contrast to antibiotics, which can lead to the formation of resistance and further disadvantages. Because many antibiotics are not targeted and, in addition to pathogens, also destroy other cultures that are important for the intestinal flora. This, in turn, can cause the intestine to become unbalanced, cause further side effects or complications, and require intestinal rehabilitation.
Easy preparation of the soup
The preparation of the soup is simple, inexpensive and requires only a few ingredients. You only need 500 grams of peeled carrots, some salt and water. That's all. This is how the carrot soup is prepared according to Moro:
- Peel 500 grams of carrots.
- Let the peeled carrots cook for an hour.
- Then press the cooked carrots through a sieve or puree with a mixer.
- Top up the mass with boiling water to a liter.
- Add three grams of table salt.
In the case of diarrhea, the soup should be taken several times a day. In addition to soup, other natural home remedies for diarrhea can also help. Even if the soup has proven itself many times, a doctor should always be consulted for severe diarrhea. (vb)
