Single parents are exposed to particular stresses that can also pose health problems. The majority of single parents are women, but single men are no longer unusual today. According to the Federal Statistical Office, a total of 2.7 million single parents lived in Germany in 2016 (408,000 men and 2.3 million women). Around one in four children are raised in a household with only one parent. The challenges in everyday life should not be underestimated, especially with regard to the reconciliation of family and work and the financial security of livelihood.
